yesterday my grandma r. had the privilege of being able to shuffle off this mortal coil in a very peaceful and quiet way - we should all be so lucky. she had been suffering from numerous health conditions for a while now, and it was simply her time. my sister (who is one of the strongest people I know) was acting as her hospice nurse, and was with her at the end. she said that grandma was happy, and that she did not suffer. we may try to feature a recipe or two from her on the show in the future, but she was never reputed to be a terribly good cook. what she lacked in culinary skill she more than made up for with in quantity - you never left her house hungry - and she backed it all with a generous spirit and a golden heart. i'm going to miss her. so... we're off on a last minute trip to the midwest tomorrow, to be with my family, my dad especially. in the interim, we'll leave you with a story that my grandma told me one of the last times we got to visit with her in person. listen or not, but be warned that it is probably only of interest to my family. it might be a while before we get episode 3 out the door - please bear with us. |
